Wow thanks so much for the nice comments on the Drumsheds piece - a really considered and interesting discussion!
I thought one bit of context, which probably didn't come across clearly enough, is that the council was more pro-Drumsheds and the demands for tight policies entirely came from the Met. I think that's the bit of licensing that people miss. Aside from issues around ingrained cultural attitudes, the Met is skint and has no resources and would prefer not to have the bother.
ok sorry I missed the year list bait instagram post, but to take the bait, may it please the court to pause for a moment and remember 2001 --

There's all that indie The Shins, Death Cab stuff, all the post rock stuff (Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai), the unbelievable drama of the Destiny's Child lineup shakeup and the release of Survivor, so much nu-metal stuff the zoomers now love, and Bob Dylan is even in there with Love and Theft. Year was insane. Part of why it doesn't maybe get remembered is so many things from that era that are now thought of as dominant or overplayed, when back then that was not overdetermined. The winners won so thoroughly, we obscure the impact and feeling of what it was like when it was actually coming all at once. It felt truly crazy at the time.
Enjoyed the discussion on club safety—it is frustrating to see venues and promotion cos lean toward increased “security” measure instead of actually investing in harm reduction. It feels like a PR fix rather than an actual attempt to mitigate the issues

Oh and I've never done this before but (and sorry, yup, I'm a semi-paywalled publication as that's how it works) but if any No Tags listeners want to read the piece on Drumsheds: https://www.londoncentric.media/p/drumsheds-in-crisis-whats-really
Then here's a free month's trial code which will only work on this link: https://www.londoncentric.media/notags
Thanks for your article Jim!

As a massive list maker (does this count as a hobby?) I really enjoyed this ep, one of my favs so far.
