Went to Phoenix Festival for a dayl in 95, was Mean Fiddler / Festival Republic. If anything, a big part of the corporate takeover of festival culture.

Having gone from Boomtown to the tiny but lovely Big Love I've seen how hard it is for independent festivals to survive. For me, it's gone from being a job to a cause. Many of us need festivals with heart and soul to feed our own.

Not that Boomtown was just a job mind. A lot of inspirational people went above and beyond to make that happen. It's good to see it still maintaining a level of autonomy from Live Nation, l only hope they manage to continue that.

Mogwai did a one-day festival in Glasgow that had no advertising at all except for local gigs. I felt like I'd gone back in time. Similarly the best festival I've been to in years was run by the Portuguese Communist Party - the atmosphere was really welcoming and most of all the food was really great (same with the Mogwai one actually)

ask all those cancelled if it was Resident Advisor suggesting them to cancel, because they don't sell enough ticket in advance according to their data predictions. because RA is "helping venues and promoters" exactly as Ticketmaster did help venues in the USA

bonus - after pandemic, people's behaviour changed and data collectors didn't update their system to it ;)
